My recent work is impelled by subtlety and playful balance.
As abstract notations, each piece invites contemplation. They
offer a glimpse of the natural world; perhaps the memory of
a sound, of something seen or sensed.
Physically, each painting is developed through fine layers
of oil paint and cold wax medium; translucent matte impasto
and light glazes. These subtle effects are further enhanced
by selective value shifts and the addition of balancing forms,
often created with the use of sterling silver leaf.
The monotypesunique paintings that are transferred to
paper with the aid of an etching pressare created while
the paper is damp. Dependent upon ambient temperature, time
is a factor. With this in mind, and by virtue of the mediums
and processes, the monotypes and ink drawings capitalize on
my enjoyment of spontaneitythe alignment of eye, mind
and heart. Playfulness is a natural by-product of the process,
and can easily be seen in these works.
In the Archive you will find a small selection of work spanning
the past twenty years. Early works dealt with the subject
of landscape, and the results of that inquirythe study
of light, colour, atmosphere and formcontinues to influence
my current work.
